Troubleshooting & Tips

📋 Overview

This guide covers common issues, their solutions, and best practices for mass video operations. Use this as your go-to reference when encountering problems.

Quick Navigation

Use the table of contents on the right to jump to specific issues. Most problems fall into these categories: Filter Issues, Preview Problems, Execution Errors, or Post-Operation Issues.

🚨 Common Error Messages

"Please select at least one filter"

Cause: You tried to preview or execute without setting any filter criteria.

Solution:

Select at least one of these:

  • ✅ At least one category, OR
  • ✅ A manufacturer, OR
  • ✅ Active status set to Active/Inactive, OR
  • ✅ Has Videos set to Yes/No
Safety Feature

This is intentional to prevent accidental operations on your entire catalog. You must always specify filter criteria.

"Video URL is required for add operation"

Cause: You selected "Add video" but didn't provide a video URL.

Solution:

  1. Enter a valid video URL in the "Video URL" field

  2. Supported formats:

    • YouTube: https://youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID
    • Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/VIDEO_ID
    • MP4: https://example.com/video.mp4
    • iframe URLs
  3. Ensure the video provider is configured (for non-YouTube/Vimeo videos)

"No update fields specified"

Cause: You selected "Update existing videos" but didn't fill any update fields.

Solution:

Fill at least one of these fields:

  • New Video Title
  • New Position
  • Registered Only checkbox
Update Logic

The system needs to know what to update. Empty fields mean "don't change this property."

"No products match the selected filters"

Cause: Your filter combination doesn't match any products in your catalog.

Common reasons:

1. Selected category is empty

Check:

  • Go to Catalog → Categories
  • Verify the category has products
  • Check if products are associated with the category

Solution:

  • Select a different category with products
  • Verify category assignments in your catalog
2. Manufacturer has no products in selected category

Check:

  • The combination of manufacturer + category results in zero products
  • Manufacturer filter might be too restrictive

Solution:

  • Use manufacturer OR category, not both
  • Verify the combination actually exists in your store
3. Filter combination too restrictive

Example:

Category: Shoes
Manufacturer: Nike
Active: Active Only
Has Videos: Without Videos
→ No Nike shoes in that category lack videos

Solution:

  • Remove some filters
  • Change "Has Videos" to "All"
  • Preview with one filter at a time
4. All products already have videos

When:

  • Filtering for "Without Videos"
  • All products in selection already have videos

Solution:

  • Change "Has Videos" to "All" or "With Videos"
  • Select a different category

"An error occurred. Please try again"

Cause: General error during operation (database, timeout, or technical issue).

Solution:

  1. Refresh the page and try again
  2. Check your internet connection
  3. Try with fewer products (smaller category)
  4. Clear browser cache (Ctrl+Shift+R or Cmd+Shift+R)
  5. If persists, contact support with:
    • What filters you used
    • What action you selected
    • How many products were in preview
    • Screenshots of the error

👁️ Preview Issues

Preview button is disabled

Cause: Form validation hasn't passed yet.

Check:

  • ✅ At least one filter is set
  • ✅ Action is selected
  • ✅ If action is "Add", video URL is filled
  • ✅ All required fields are completed
Auto-Enable

The button will enable automatically when all requirements are met. No need to refresh the page.

Preview shows unexpected products

Cause: Filter logic is working differently than expected.

Remember: Filters use AND logic - products must match ALL active filters.

Debugging workflow:

Solution:

  1. Clear all filters
  2. Add them one by one
  3. Preview after each addition
  4. Identify which filter causes unexpected results

Preview shows "showing first 100"

This is normal: When more than 100 products match your filters, only the first 100 are displayed in preview.

All Products Affected

Important: ALL matching products (not just the displayed 100) will be affected when you execute.

If you want to limit the operation:

  • Add more specific filters to reduce the count
  • Split into multiple smaller operations by category
  • Use more restrictive filter combinations

⚡ Execution Issues

Operation seems slow / hanging

For large operations (100+ products):

  • This is normal - Processing takes time
  • Be patient - Don't close the browser window
  • Wait for message - Success/error message will appear
  • Expected time: 1-5 seconds per 100 products
Progress Indication

A loading indicator shows the operation is in progress. Do NOT close the browser during this time.

Videos not appearing after "Add" operation

Check these:

1. Cache Issues

Solution:

  • Clear PrestaShop cache: Performance → Clear cache
  • Clear browser cache: Ctrl+Shift+R (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+R (Mac)
  • Force refresh the product page
2. Shop Context

Check:

  • Are you viewing the correct shop?
  • Did you execute the operation in a different shop context?

Solution:

  • Verify shop context matches
  • Check product in the shop where operation was executed
3. Language Context

Check:

  • Are you viewing the product in the correct language?
  • Video titles might be language-specific

Solution:

  • Switch to the language used during operation
  • Check product in default language

Update didn't change anything

Common causes:

  1. Empty fields: Only fields you fill are updated - empty = no change
  2. Same values: Setting position to current position has no effect
  3. Filter issue: "Has Videos" might be filtering out intended products

Solution:

✅ Good: New Title = "Updated Demo"
❌ Bad: New Title = (empty)
  • Verify fields are filled
  • Check filter captured right products
  • Try with a single test product first

💡 Best Practices

Before Starting

Preparation Checklist
  • ✅ Know your goal clearly
  • ✅ Plan your filters in advance
  • ✅ Test with a test category or 2-3 products initially
  • ✅ For Remove operations, consider backup/export

During Operations

Operation Checklist
  • ✅ Always preview - Never skip this step
  • ✅ Read carefully - Check the preview product list thoroughly
  • ✅ One at a time - Complete and verify before starting next
  • ✅ Take notes - Record what operations you perform

After Operations

Verification Checklist
  • ✅ Verify changes on sample products
  • ✅ Clear cache if changes don't appear immediately
  • ✅ Check frontend display
  • ✅ Document the operation for reference

🎯 Quick Tips

Efficient Filtering

💡 Start broad, narrow down - Begin with category, add more filters as needed

💡 Use "Has Videos" strategically:

  • "Without Videos" = Fill in missing content
  • "With Videos" = Update or remove existing content
  • "All" = When video presence doesn't matter

💡 Test filter combinations - Preview before committing

Position Management

💡 Position 0 = Always first (safest for important videos)

💡 Position -1 = Always last (safest for supplementary content)

💡 Specific number = Use when you know exact order needed

💡 Existing videos shift = Videos at or after the new position move down

Safety Measures

🔒 Remove operations:

  • Are irreversible - no undo
  • Show extra warning dialog
  • Should be tested on small sets first

🔒 Start small:

  • Test with 2-3 products
  • Verify results
  • Then scale up

🔒 Filter verification:

  • Preview multiple times if unsure
  • Check product count makes sense
  • Look for unexpected products in list

❓ FAQ

Can I undo a bulk operation?

No. Operations are permanent, especially Remove operations. This is why preview is mandatory - it's your chance to verify before executing.

Best practice: Test with small product sets first.

How many products can I process at once?

Technical limit: Depends on server, but typically 500+ products work fine.

Recommended: For operations over 200 products, consider splitting into multiple smaller operations for better control and faster processing.

No hard limit: The system processes sequentially, so even 1000+ products will work (just takes longer).

What happens to video positions when I add new videos?

If position ≤ existing video count:

  • Existing videos at that position and after shift down by one
  • Example: Add at position 1 → old position 1 becomes position 2

If position > existing video count or position = -1:

  • Video added at end, no shifting occurs

Automatic: Positions are always renumbered to eliminate gaps.

Can I filter by multiple categories at once?

Yes! Check multiple category boxes in the category tree. Products in ANY of the selected categories will be included (OR logic for categories).

Example:

Select "Summer" and "New" categories
→ Products in Summer OR New (or both) are included
Do updates affect ALL videos on a product?

Yes. When you update, all videos on each filtered product are updated with the new values.

Can't selectively update: If you need to update only specific videos, you'll need to use individual product editing or filter more precisely.

Does this work in multi-shop environments?

Yes. Select your shop context before starting. Operations only affect products in the selected shop.

Important: Always verify shop context before executing operations.

Can I add the same video to all products?

Yes! This is a common use case:

  1. Filter your products
  2. Select "Add video"
  3. Enter the same video URL for all
  4. Execute

All filtered products will receive the same video.

What video URL formats are supported?

Supported:

  • YouTube: https://youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID
  • Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/VIDEO_ID
  • Direct MP4: https://example.com/video.mp4
  • Custom iframe: Any valid iframe URL

Module compatibility: The same formats supported in individual product video management work in bulk operations.

Can I schedule bulk operations?

No. Bulk operations execute immediately when you click "Execute Bulk Operation."

Workaround: Perform operations during low-traffic hours manually.

How do I know if operation succeeded?

Success message appears:

  • "Successfully added video to X products"
  • "Videos updated successfully"
  • "Successfully removed X videos"

Verify: Always check a few sample products after operation to confirm changes.
